This quote from Broadway show Hamilton is one of my favorites. We can think of legacy as something grandiose in a large gesture. But in reality, our legacy changes and grows each and every day. We are each a leader because we each have influence on others. It is the influence that we have on others through our actions and words through every day conversations. The leadership skill of communication with ourselves and others makes a difference in our connections. The great thing is that when we influence one person, we are influencing another two to three people that may never meet. Neuroplasticity teaches us that neurons that fire together wire together as a conversation a friend may have with another person may remind them of you.
When was the last time you were in a conversation with your friend and she mentioned a conversation she had had with somebody else? How many times your name might come up when that person’s speaking to somebody else? This is our legacy. This is the garden that we will never see. So the question is for you today, what is the legacy that you are leaving?
