Two Strategies to master your active listening skills.
1. Be Curious
Be curious and ask follow up questions to get more detail – these details will allow you to create a picture in your mind helping you remember the conversation and hence building relationship to call back the conversation and moment.
2. Be observant
Be observant of the persons non verbal language such as facial expression, tone of voice and posture. Let them know you see them and get clarity when needed. “I see you are emotional about this— are you more angry or afraid”.
3. Be mindful
Being mindful means being present and in the moment with someone. Keep your focus on what it happening right now. Neuroplasticity tells us when we are in the moment using our senses or what we are seeing, hearing, touching, smelling or tasting that it allows us to remember to retain the moment.
When we are with others, we are looking for the connection with them. Cherish the moment you are in right now with another person.
